Those features combine the best of both worlds – easy following of a conversation while keeping it all in one place. I’m glad it’s build into WordPress now (I don’t think it was when I wrote this), and hopefully Blogger will get it soon too.

But a disadvantage is that anyone who comments on a blog will have to go back to that blog to see if anyone responded to it.

Well, depends on what kind of blog you have. LiveJournal and its clones, for example, make it quite easy to know if someone’s replied to your comment, as well as making it easier to follow particular threads.

… And I just now noticed that this site, too, has an option “Notify me of follow-up comments via email.”
